NYHL 2021-2022 Registration:
The Newburyport Youth Hockey League is now accepting registrations for the 2021-2022 season for players at the U8 (Mite) through U14 (Bantam) levels. Registration will secure a position in next year's program and will assist the NYHL in determining the correct number of teams and the optimum number of players per team. The NYHL reserves the right to eliminate teams based on low enrollment due to cost.
The NYHL Season begins the first week of September and runs until March or early April based on playoff performance.
Participation in the NYHL Hockey Season typically includes:
- Up to Two (2) team practices per week located at either the Graf Rink in Newburyport, MA or Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH.
- One (1) to Two (2) games per week as determined by the Valley Hockey League. Locations vary.
- Monday night skills based practices run by our NYHL Coaches. Mites/Squirts participate in skills practices together and PeeWees/Bantams participate in skills practices together.
- Occasional Sunday morning Stick Time, open to all NYHL players, when available.
- U8 (Mite) level players are encouraged to continue to participate in the weekly NYHL Learn to Skate Program each Sunday at the Graf Rink.
Please note that the information listed above is based on previous seasons. The NYHL reserves the right to alter or change the schedule and offerings based on enrollment, availability of ice time, or situations arising that are out of control of the organization.
If you have at least one player in the NYHL currently, please log into your existing account when registering, so that you can use the information currently stored in the system - do not create a new account. Make sure to enter at least one email address for one of the parents.
If you would like to receive email and/or text notifications from the team, coaches, league, throughout the season, please DO NOT check the "No email" check box. We do not sell or distribute any email addresses outside of the NYHL.
Registration will not be considered complete until any/all previous balances have been paid in full.
Players with outstanding balances will not be rostered on a team until their balances have been resolved. The NYHL will not provide a USA Hockey Waiver or Out of State Financial Waiver for any player with an outstanding balance.
USA Hockey Registration:
All players and coaches are required to have current USA Hockey memberships before they can register for the NYHL Season. USA Hockey Registration opens on April 1st each season and can be completed online at https://membership.usahockey.com/register/age. You will need your 2021-2022 membership number to proceed with your NYHL Registration. Players must also email a copy of their USA Hockey Registration to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The fee for your USA Hockey annual membership is in addition to the NYHL Tuition for the season. USA Hockey membership provides additional insurance in addition to other member benefits as outlined on their website.
The Valley Hockey League also has an annual registration requirement that will be forwarded to players at the start of the season.
Eligibility for the 2021-2022 Season is based on the USA Hockey Age Classifications.
Tuition for the 2021-2022 Season will be set at $2,000.00 per player.
A non-refundable $200.00 Registration Fee will be due at the time of registration.
The remaining tuition balance ($1,800.00) will be due in six (6) payments as outlined below:

If you are experiencing financial hardship, please reach out to our treasurer. We would be happy to discuss alternative arrangements on an individual and confidential basis, if needed.
Sibling and Goalie Discounts:
The NYHL will continue to offer a $300.00 sibling discount for families with more than one player in the regular season program (Mite Instructional, Middle School, and Midget Programs excluded).
Tuition for Full Time Goalies, U10 (Squirts) through U14 (Bantams) only, will be set at $1,000.00 per player. Full time goalie tuition will include participation in the Stop It Goaltending Program or similar goalie skills program. For more information please reach out to the NYHL’s Goalie Rep.
Only one discount can be applied per player. For example, either the goalie discount or the sibling discount, but not both.
On a case-by-case basis, the NYHL BOD can consider rostering a player on a team as an alternate. Alternate positions are not guaranteed for each team and will be considered based on each team’s needs and are largely determined by registration numbers.
The NYHL defines an alternate as a player whose primary hockey team/club is not the NYHL.
Tuition for alternates will be $1,000.00 for the season. An alternate is invited to participate in as many practices as their primary teams’ schedule allows. Participation in games will be determined by the Head Coach and would be on an as needed basis.
9th Grade Students that will be playing JV or Varsity High School Hockey; but who are still eligible to play youth hockey as a U14 (Bantam), will have their Tuition set at the alternate rate.
If your player is interested in participation as an alternate at any level, please email the NYHL BOD at email@example.com for consideration. Alternates are not eligible for sibling or goalie discounts.
Out of Town Players:
While the NYHL would love to be able to accept players from all towns, player registration is subject to USA and MA Hockey rules and regulations. Massachusetts Hockey allows for up to three out of town players to be registered and rostered on each team, providing that those players do not have any outstanding financial obligations to any other Massachusetts Hockey or USA Hockey affiliated programs. If there are more than three out of town players rostered on any one team, the out of town players would only be allowed to participate with the NYHL if a waiver is secured from the player’s local organization. In the event that this happens, the NYHL will only assist with requesting a waiver from the player’s local organization. It will be the responsibility of the player’s parents/guardians to ensure a waiver is secured prior to the start of the season. The NYHL cannot guarantee that the player’s local organization will issue a waiver, nor does the NYHL have any influence or control regarding an organization’s decision to grant or deny a waiver request. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to the NYHL Board of Directors.

Players will also have the opportunity to purchase NYHL apparel during this time. You do not need to order a new jersey each year so long as they fit appropriately.
The NYHL will provide one (1) team jacket for all new NYHL Players at the U8 (Mite) level. Jacket fitting and ordering typically occurs in the fall for December delivery. Team jackets are normally provided during participation in the Mite Instructional Season.
