Learn to Skate Begins Sunday - 10/18/2026

The Learn to Skate Program will begin this coming Sunday, October 18th, at 10:00am.

The NYHL will have (2) Board Members present at the rink the first two Sundays of the program to help with check-in and to answer any questions that you may have. Please make sure to check-in at their table when you arrive.

If possible, please write your children's name on white tape on their helmets so that the instructors know who they are when on the ice. We will also have some white tape and markers at the rink if needed.

Helpful Hints:

· Please arrive at the rink with enough time to have your children dressed and ready to step out on the ice for 10:00am.

· All participants are required to have the following:

o Skates (The rink may or may not have rentals available – please do not rely on having to rent skates)

o Helmet (Hockey Helmet or Bike Helmet)

o Warm Gloves (Little hands get cold quickly)

o Long pants (Sweat pants or snow pants)

          o Jacket

o Elbow pads and Knee pads are strongly recommended

Volunteer Requirements:

If you are interested in volunteering on the ice with the Learn to Skate Program this season please reach out to Coach Dick Tierney directly at (978) 270-4867.

Volunteers are expected to help all children on the ice and not just follow around their own children :).

Volunteer requirements are as follows:

· All volunteers must be registered with USA Hockey for the 2026-2027 Season as Volunteers for Newburyport Youth Hockey. The link for USA Hockey Registration can be found here: https://membership.usahockey.com/

· All volunteers must complete background screening through USA Hockey. The link for background screening can be found here: https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen

These requirements must be completed before stepping on the ice.

All volunteers must wear helmets when on the ice - NO EXCEPTIONS.

When completed, copies of USA Hockey Volunteer Registration should be emailed to our Registrar at dennisb@nyhl.org.

All volunteers are required to wear helmets when on the ice.

Thank you very much for your participation and interest in our program. We are excited to have all of your children on the ice with us and to be able to offer them a fun outlet to learn how to skate and hopefully play hockey in the future.

Sincerely,

Josh Freeman – NYHL Co-President
